Town Art Gallery “Atanas Sharenkov”

The Art Gallery “Atanas Sharenkov” was founded in 1962. It is located in two neighboring houses – Jewish and Armenian ones. The buildings, constructed at the beginning of the twentieth century, have been affirmed to be cultural monuments.
The original fund, comprising several paintings, has been enriched over the years and nowadays it consists of 1668 works of art (paintings, sculptures, graphics and icons). The permanent exhibition includes works by world famous artists such as Zlatyu Boyadjiev, Ilia Petrov, Dechko Uzunov and others. The middle generation of artists, who have proven themselves in many national and international exhibitions, such as Svetlin Rusev, Dimitar Kirov, Atanas Patsev and others are also presented. The character of the gallery is determined by the works of artists who lived and worked in the district. These are Alexander Stamenov, Petar Mihailov, Hristo Forev and others. Most of the works, exhibited in the gallery, are picturesque compositions, portraits and busts. The gallery has a collection of paintings, donated by Dr. Jivko Vradzhaliev, an artist from Sofia. In recent years, the Town Art Gallery has completed its collection of works of fine art by contemporary prominent artists. In 2009 the gallery was named after Atanas Sharenkov, a prominent technologist and artist, born in the town of Haskovo.
Since 2011, Atanas Sharenkov Gallery has another gallery, called Forum, with address 40a Otets Paisiy Street.
